Mouse House – Clapham

This is the place for school readiness.

Mouse House SW11 is our flagship Nursery School, welcoming up to 80 children into an energetic and sociable atmosphere.

At Mouse House SW11, we are thrilled to announce a range of exciting updates that will help us provide an even more enriching experience for your child. Starting in September 2025, we are making changes that reflect our commitment to nurturing children’s growth and development, while embracing the latest educational practices. Here’s an overview of what’s new:

1. Extended Opening Hours: 8:15 AM – 5:00 PM

We understand that family schedules can be busy, which is why we’re adjusting our hours to better accommodate the needs of our families. Our new opening time will start at 8:15 AM, and we’ll stay open until 5:00 PM – giving you more flexibility for drop-off and pick-up, while ensuring your child has a full day of learning and play.

2. Now Welcoming Children from 18 Months Old

To support earlier childhood development, we’re expanding our age range and will now be welcoming children from 18 months old. This means we can provide a warm, nurturing environment from a younger age, where your child can begin their learning journey surrounded by caring and experienced staff.

3. Hot Lunches

To nourish and energise our little learners, we’ll be introducing hot lunches as part of our daily offerings. These meals will be freshly prepared, healthy, and designed to fuel your child’s day with balanced nutrition. It’s all about providing wholesome, delicious food that supports both growth and energy for their busy, fun-filled days.

4. Exciting New Forest School Programme

One of the highlights of our new offerings is our Forest School programme, which will allow children to immerse themselves in nature and learn through hands-on exploration. Whether it’s discovering the natural world, engaging in outdoor activities, or learning to take risks in a safe environment, Forest School encourages children to develop their independence, problem-solving skills, and creativity in an outdoor setting. This programme helps children build resilience, fosters a love for nature, and strengthens physical and emotional wellbeing.

5. Inspired by Froebelian Principles

Our curriculum continues to be deeply inspired by the educational principles of Friedrich Froebel, who believed in the importance of play, creativity, and learning through doing. The key elements of our approach are:

  • Unity and Connectedness: We value building connections between children, educators, and families. Our approach fosters a sense of community and belonging where everyone is part of the learning process.
  • Autonomous Learners: Children are encouraged to be independent thinkers and active participants in their learning. We believe in empowering children to make choices, ask questions, and explore their ideas freely.
  • The Value of Childhood in Its Own Right: We respect the uniqueness of each stage of childhood and believe that the early years are not just a stepping stone but a time for genuine, meaningful development. Our programme celebrates the intrinsic value of childhood itself.
  • Strong Relationships: We prioritize building strong, trusting relationships between children and caregivers, as well as between families and staff. This helps create an emotionally supportive environment where children feel safe and ready to learn.
  • Creative Curriculum: Our curriculum is flexible and designed to engage children in creative, hands-on activities that stimulate their imaginations. Every day is filled with new opportunities for children to express themselves, whether through art, music, or imaginative play.
  • Central Importance of Play: We believe that play is the foundation of learning. Through guided and free play, children explore, experiment, and learn essential life skills such as social interaction, problem-solving, and emotional expression.
  • Connection with Nature: Our Forest School programme is a significant part of this, where children learn to appreciate and connect with the natural world, developing both their physical abilities and environmental awareness.

A Philosophy of Hands-On Learning

Drawing from Froebel’s philosophy, we continue to provide an environment where learning through doing is at the heart of our approach. As Froebel said, “To learn a thing in life and through doing is much more developing, cultivating, and strengthening than to merely learn through the verbal communication of ideas.” At Mouse House, we embrace this by encouraging children to engage directly with their surroundings and experiences, whether through outdoor play, creative activities, or group projects.

In summary, Mouse House SW11 is more than just a nursery; it’s a space where children can thrive, discover, and grow at their own pace. With our extended hours, new age group, nourishing meals, and exciting Forest School programme, we are committed to offering a holistic approach to early childhood education. These changes, grounded in Froebelian principles, ensure that your child will have the opportunity to become a confident, independent learner – ready to take on the world with curiosity and joy.

We can’t wait to welcome you and your little one to experience all of the wonderful changes we’ve made at Mouse House!

Whilst being one of our largest groups, you’ll still find the same warm home- from-home feel. We offer longer days which introduce children to something close to a school-day experience, helping prepare them for their next step.
Our experienced and supportive team have delivered strong educational outcomes over the years, with children moving on to nearby schools including Thomas’s Clapham, Eaton House and Broomwood.

You’ll find a bustling calendar of activities, trips and events at Mouse House, including our popular Christmas, Easter, and end-of-year shows, so there’s always opportunity for children to share their new passion or skill in front of a willing audience!
